Identification elements of an iconographic and stylistic nature: The icon is a feast celebration piece and was part of the frieze of an iconostasis, out of which nine icons have been preserved in the collection. The anonymous painter represents the scene of the Ascension of the Lord according to the traditional composition. The scene is set out on two registers. In the upper one, above the clouds, Jesu Christ in Glory, in a medallion, supported by two flying angels, ascends to the heavens. In the bottom register, on the ground, the Mother of God, flanked by two angels, is surrounded by the twelve Apostles, depicted in choral perspective. Some awkwardness in portraying the proportions, the graphical modeling of the faces and a clear penchant for decoration are characteristic elements of folk painting. Technical identification elements: The wooden support of the painting consists of a single board, without crossbars. Conclusions: The painting of the icon stylistically fits into the religious painting of the first half of the 19th century, practiced in local painting workshops, which will gradually transform into folk painting (A.D.).
