The icon is a fragment from a frieze with Apostles of an iconostasis. Apostles Philip and Mark are depicted standing, both facing left. Against the gold background, each is shown under a cintrated wooden arch, carved and gilded, applied on the icon, Apostle Philip with a filacter and Apostle Mark with the gospel. They wear traditional garments - chiton and himation rendered in red, green and ochre, their drapery being made more relaxed, in soft folds, with thick strokes. Between them, against the gold background, the silhouettes of churches are outlined, the architecture of which is inspired by the region. The bottom part of the icon, painted green, presents later interventions, executed in oil, suggesting a perspective. The painting of the icon fits in the transition phase of the traditional painting, moving towards the Western easel painting. Even though the characters' faces are depicted according to Erminia, their modeling feels the influence of Western painting which penetrated more and more into Transylvania towards the end of the 18th century (A.D.).
