Chiar dacă primul contact serios cu pictura îl are în preajma expresionistului Aurel Popp, François Gall va deveni unul dintre reprezentanții ultimului val al impresionismului francez. Cu studii inițiale în cadrul Academiei de Arte Frumoase din Roma, pictorul alege calea Parisului în 1936, înscriindu-se la Belle Arte, unde îl va studia cu André Devambez.
