The 2nd "Prunaru" Rosiori Regiment was established in 1870, based on the Iasi Mounted Rifles Regiment and the Bucharest Calarasi Regiment, being located in the capital under the command of Colonel Dumitru Donici. It effectively reached the Bârlad garrison on October 22, 1895. It was inspected here in January 1904 by His Royal Highness Prince Ferdinand. The unit distinguished itself through both its participation in the War of Independence, the Second Balkan War but especially in the First World War through the famous heroic charge at Prunaru.
