PROVENANCE
The Marie Jeanne (Diamandy) and Nicolae Bastaki collection. Marie Jeanne was the daughter of Ioana Pallady from her marriage with Constantin Diamandy, a Romanian nobleman and diplomat, plenipotentiary minister in Petersburg, and later, the ambassador of Romania in Paris. Constantin Diamandy had three children with Ioana, born Ghika: Marie Jeanne, Magda and Ion. Marie Jeanne married Neculai Bastaki, an agricultural engineer with studies in Belgium, and her sister, Magda, married Emil Sturdza and later George G. Assan, with whom she lived in the Assan house in Lahovary Square, today the House of Scientists. An art lover, Marie Jeanne started her collection under her father's guidance. Confiscated in the '80s, in 2008, following a decision from 2006, the work is returned by the Bucharest City Museum to the heirs of the Bastaki family.
