Even though he was born and died in France, Jean Neylies was assimilated into modern Romanian painting as a native artist, especially since his work of arts during his years in Romania were no different from the local imaginary. Studying in Paris in the last decade of the 19th century at the National School of Fine Arts, Neylies became friend with Dr. Gheorghe Marinescu who also studying there, who later offered him a job as a draftsman at Pantelimon Hospital, then at Colentina, jobs he kept until 1931 when he left Romania for good. All this time, Neylies regularly exhibited at the Bucharest salons, at the Artistic Youth Salons (1906, 1911-1915, 1922, 1926, 1927, 1935) and at the Official Salon (1925, 1927, 1930) and even managed to organize several personal exhibitions at the Romanian Athenaeum (1913, 1915, 1919).
