Apprentice of the master Grigorescu, student of the Bucharest National School of Fine Arts (1888-1895) and of the Munich Academy, Alexandru Satmary made his debut in 1903, together with his fencing comrade, Jean Neylies. He will actively participate in the Romanian artistic life, regularly working and exhibiting during the events of the Artistic Youth, of the Terrace Academy etc. His repertoire covers portraits, interiors, landscapes collected from Muntenia, Oltenia or Dobrogea (Balchik), and ecclesiastical compositions, made near churches and monasteries in the country.
