Martin Schmeizel (1679-1747), a Transylvanian historian and heraldist of German origin, published in Jena in 1722 one of the first histories of the Lutheran Church in Transylvania, which appeared at the time of the Catholic offensive in Transylvania after its entry into the Habsburg Empire. The work was well received in Transylvanian Protestant circles.
