Affected by the death of his younger brother Iancu (1826-1884), the poet Vasile Alecsandri, at his estate in Mircesti, confessed his grief to an unidentified friend. Iancu Alecsandri had been one of the main collaborators of the ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza who appointed him his diplomatic representative in the capital of France. The letter is written in black ink, dated and handwritten signed by the poet.
