The Enlightenment scholar Jean Louis Carra (1742-1793), a revolutionary and tireless traveller in the second half of the 18th Century, wrote this important work because of the information it contains about Romanians. The copy is part of the German edition of the work, published in 1789, a translation of the French edition of 1777. The binding is a leather bibliophile binding and on the title page are two bookplates, one of the leader of the National Liberal Party Dimitrie A. Sturdza, the second of the Romanian Mining Company.
