The engraving is part of the work "Recueil de cent estampes représentant les different nations du Levant", published in Paris in 1714 by Charles Ferriol, former ambassador of King Louis XIV of France in Constantinople between 1692 and 1711. The engraving is made by French artist Bernard Baron (1690?-1762) and depicts a young Romanian nobleman from Romanian Country dressed in an oriental costume specific to the southeastern European region under the control of the Ottoman Empire.
