The icon of the Mother of God "Akhtyrka" is painted in a Western style. On the left side of the Virgin is depicted the scene of the Lord's Crucifixion, and the Virgin appears to be looking compassionately at Her Son. Her hands are clasped at her chest in a prayer position, atypical for Orthodox iconography. (M.B.)
