On the gold background of the icon, in the upper part, the bust of Jesus Christ blessing is depicted in the open sky. Next to it is depicted the bust of Saint John the Baptist as an intercessor, and also on the upper right, in the corner of the icon, is painted the Archangel Gabriel holding the seal of Jesus Christ. Symmetrically, on the left were painted the Mother of God and Archangel Michael, at present the painting is completely missing. On the gold background of the icon, the saints are depicted standing, in choral perspective, suggested by the overlapping halos, arranged on three levels. The silhouettes of the saints in the bottom row are presented in full, in the other two levels they are only depicted as busts. The faces of the saints with the typology characteristic of the Moldavian school of painting from the 16th century, are painted tone on tone in shades of ochre, the anonymous painter using brown for shadows and for the highlighted parts, ochre or white ochre. The gold of the background, the bright colors of the robes dominated by red, blue and gold, plus the richness of the golden embroideries and the numerous pearls, constitute a characteristic note of Moldavian painting from the middle of the 16th century. The field of the icon is delimited by a heightened frame having in the middle a decor in the form of a twisted rope. (A.D.)
