The scene takes place against an ochre-green background, in an architectural setting. The baby is sitting on a cluster of hay in front of Virgin Mary, who is holding his hand. Behind the swing, a kneeling angel and the three magi, one of them kneeling. Behind Virgin Mary, robed in a red mantle and gold tunic, stands Saint Joseph. In the centre, a large star pours its rays through the heads of two horses (in reality the ox and the donkey). (A.D.)
