tempera and gold foil on wood, 19.5 x 14.5 cm
On the gold background, Saint Emperors Constantine and Helen are depicted with the Cross between them, the symbol of the Christian faith. Both wear royal robes, imperial garnets, richly adorned with gold thread embroidery, pearls and precious stones. Th imperial crowns are decorated in the same way. Around the heads, the halos are outlined against the gold background with a red line. The golden frame of the icon, raised above the field of the icon, is decorated with ova. The faces of the characters, the typology and the models, are made in the Brâncovenesc painting style. Taken as a whole, the painting of the icon stands out for its splendour and richness, a characteristic feature of the Brâncovenesc style, in this case given by the chromatic combination with the dominance of red of several shades and gold, which vibrates on the shining golden background of the icon.
