The central part of the Air depicts the scene of the Lord's Weeping reduced to its essential elements. Jesus Christ dead is lying on the stone of Ephesus. Virgin Mary is sitting at his bedside, holding his head on her knees and bending over him, embracing him. Virgin Mary's face expresses a deep but contained pain. On the left side of Jesus, St. John the Evangelist is depicted bending over Jesus, his face betraying uncontrollable grief. Beside him, there is St. Nicodim, depicted in the same manner, his face showing the same overwhelming pain. In the background, in the axis of symmetry, the Crucifixion Cross is depicted. Two angels in flight, crying, bear the signs of Jesus' Passion: the spear with which it was staked and the sponge soaked in vinegar instead of water. The scene is framed by a narrow frame decorated with vegetal motifs composed of a meandering flower and leaf border.
