Dan Smântănescu was a professor of Romanian language and literature in the Palatine class (probably after 1937), a publicist, translator and literary historian. From 1931 to 1940 he was Nicolae Iorga's private secretary, and in 1936 he was awarded his PhD. Librarian at the State Archives (1933-1934) and at the Romanian Academy (1934-1937), Romanian language teacher at "St. Sava" College, "Matei Basarab" High School, "Mihai Viteazul" High School, Military Musical Institute in Bucharest (1933-1955), civil servant at Straja Țării (1938-1940), from 1956 he taught the history of universal literature and the history of arts at "Ciprian Porumbescu" Conservatory.
