Ethnomusicologist Harry Brauner (1908-1988), brother of the surrealist painter Victor Brauner, participated in the sociological research campaigns organized by Dimitrie Gusti. He also composed contemporary music inspired by the traditional folk creations he was studying. In 1964 he married Lena Constante, whom he had met in the circle around Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu, which brought him years in prison and house arrest following the fall of the communist leader. After his rehabilitation, he dedicated himself to a university career, organizing the first ethnomusicological laboratory at the Bucharest Conservatory.
