There are books that are read and books that are discovered. Volumes that do not just tell a story, but carry within them the traces of lives, of eras and of decisive gestures. The present auction brings together such objects of written memory, in which time has not deposited itself like a patina, but like a layer of meaning. A first thread of this narrative is traced by the collection of Magdalena Popescu Bedrosian, a refined presence of the Romanian cultural world and a figure appreciated especially by the young writers of the 80s, for whom the book was more than an object of study: it was a space for the encounter between ideas, authors and generations. The story continues with Pericle Martinescu (1911-2005), a writer and memoirist of the 20th century, whose confessional, but also analytical voice surprised the literary world in constant transformation. Another plan of the auction opens a window to the intellectual and public history of modern Romania, through documents related to Remus Caracaș (1878–1965), a close collaborator of Nicolae Iorga and researcher, who appears in the pages of history not as a formal figure, but as a man passionate about the past and its preservation. Bringing together these destinies - the attentive bibliophile, the lucid writer and the civil servant of a founding era, the Rare Book and Autograph Auction proposes a journey through different layers of cultural memory. Each lot is a story in itself, and together they form a landscape in which the book remains an essential object capable of crossing time and linking, again and again, the past with the present.
