The novel was first published by Editions Gallimard in 1955, in a French translation by Alain Guillermou. The original Romanian version was published in 1971 in Paris by Ioan Cușa. 1100 copies of this edition were printed. It contains two ex-libris stamped “Romanistisches Institut Der Universitat München” and “Ausgeschieden Aus Bestand” (Withdrawn from inventory). This attests that at one point, the book was part of the collection of the Institute of the University of Munich.
