An exponent of a new type of impressionism, Horea Paștina stands out in Romanian painting through large-scale works in which he paints panoramas of outdoor spaces full of vegetation. Attracted by the white period in the work of Nicolae Grigorescu, he would take up and constantly use this nuance in his own creations, particularly appreciating its placement in close proximity to light. The connection with the geographical space corresponding to childhood and the insertions inspired by faith converge, in the artistic development of Paștina, on references to Eden and eternal, undisturbed tranquillity. With a meticulous prior study of the motif, the artist uses line as the protagonist of his pictorial semantics and unfolds his refractive imagery on monumental surfaces. The chromatic pallet he opts for enhances the burst of vitality drawn from the unyielding branches of nature. The humility he shows in the face of the divine landscape reveals Paștina as both artist and theologian. The two are linked and amplify each other's creative force. The garden series remains, in the economy of the work, a means of a rightful approach to the celestial plane.
