Artist Ștefan Câlția carries with him the ineffable essence of light, materials and his native place, of that idyllic Transylvanian space, which has become a state of soul. Nature, at once soothing and ordinary, becomes a character in itself, silent, a witness to existence and the gentle flow of time. In the monograph dedicated to the artist, Liviu Oprescu identifies an oscillation between "the harshness of living" and a certain "lucidity of reverie", between dream and wakefulness. Since remembering, dreaming are perpetual waking states, the dream becomes an open window to extract what is true in us. The sky occupies a primordial place in the author's paintings, especially the sunsets. In these compositions, the horizon is very low, leaving room for sky, air, in rosy shades or coloured greys, from blue to orange. Not by chance, in an interview the artist confessed that his first painting was a landscape, made with a piece of cotton wool stuck into the end of tubes of oil paints. Based on the same interview, we find an interesting conception of landscape in Ștefan Câlția's work: "the perfect illustration of a biology concept, which says that if certain patches of forest are very isolated, the number of birds, like the robin, or animals living there decreases as they are unable to communicate with each other. And if they try to cross from one place to another they fall prey to hawks. Robins are tiny, brightly coloured songbirds that can't fly very far. In Transylvania, many areas of forest have not been completely cleared. Oak trees reign there, both for shade and food. The old, gnarled oak tree stumps are a reality of my childhood". The landscape thus becomes a story told softly,
