The Byzantine world marks the epicentre of the impressive creation of the artist Sorin Ilfoveanu, as he declared at the vernissage of his personal exhibition in 2015: "I tried to stay connected to a traditional language of the image, originating from the fresco - Byzantine icon, miniature, from the archaic art around the Mediterranean. Tradition as a return to the origins based on which one can build something new." The series "Levant after Levant" stands out due to its novel colour palette, due to the moderate vibrant colours, subtly dominated by the presence of violet. The female character’s half-draped apparel reminds of the ancient virgins, and the animal characters complete the choreography of the work. A student of master Corneliu Baba, Sorin Ilfoveanu presents works in important exhibitions, museums, and private collections worldwide, from Paris to Tokyo, from Bucharest to Oslo and Perugia. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1978, he was awarded the National Order of Faithful Service in the High Officer rank and is a laureate of the Prometheus Grand Prize for Opera Omnia in 2011.
