This lot of coins represents an extremely important historical document for illustrating the economic and monetary situation in the Balkan area at the end of the 16th century. This lot of coins certainly originates from a larger treasure found north of the Danube, as it retains the structural characteristics of treasures documented in Wallachia and Moldova for this period. The hiding of these treasures north of the Danube is connected with the devaluation of Murad III's emissions, the currency being used to pay the Ottoman soldiers who participated in the military campaigns of the Long War (1591- 1606). Therefore, this lot is illustrative of the Ottoman monetary flow in the market in Wallachia and Moldova.
