The work, first published by Constantin Dobrogeanu-Gherea (1855-1920) in 1910, sparked a broad controversy in its time. A close friend of Caragiale, he enjoyed the attention of Maiorescu and Hașdeu, who constantly fought him. A partisan of the socialist ideology, which he often supported from radical positions, the author was transformed by the communist regime into a precursor of the communist movement in Romania. The connection of the copy (with traces of the passage of time) is from the same period.
