The Soviet military authorities organized in 1943-1944 two divisions, "Tudor Vladimirescu" and "Horia, Cloșca and Crișan", composed of Romanian prisoners of war captured on the eastern front during the Second World War and held in Soviet camps. Indoctrinated and bolshevised, the soldiers of these divisions played an important role after August 23, 1944 in protecting the Romanian Communist Party and in the Sovietization of the country. After 1948 these divisions were disbanded and the troops integrated into the new popular army. The insignia represents a rare collector's item, it marked the membership of the respective soldiers to the mentioned division.
