silk, colloidal gold, wooden case, 68 x 48 cm

The fan, made of silk on a brass structure and spokes, includes the combined monograms of King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth, located on the lower right side. Probably the fan was painted by the queen, known for her talent, both literary and artistic. She painted other pieces as well, such as calendars or book illustrations. The scene decorating the central plane of the piece is inspired by nature, in the form of a pair of goldfinches flying among cornflowers. The silk support has some minor defects due to the passage of time and one of the brass spokes is detached at the end towards the handle. The fan is framed in a period wood frame with patinated plaster decorative elements.
