Obverse: "IMP IVL PHILIPPVS AVG" Reverse: "PROVINCIA DACIA - AN III" The coin's obverse presents Emperor Philip the Arab's bust, wearing a laurel wreath, oriented towards right, surrounded by the Latin abbreviation of the phrase "IMPERATOR MARCUS IULIUS PHILIPPUS AUGUSTUS", while its reverse contains an allegoric representation of the Dacia province facing left and holding a Dacian falx in her hand, as well as the flag of the XIII Gemina legion, surrounded by another flag, of the V Macedonica legion, by the symbols of the military unities, an eagle and a lion, as well as by the exergue inscription "PROVINCIA DACIA". The formula "AN III" refers to the 3rd year of the Emperor's reign, 247 A. D.
