The engraving of scholar monarch Dimitrie Cantemir was executed in order to illustrate the 1734 London-issued edition of his work, "Istoria creșterii și descreșterii puterii otomanicești" ("History of the Rise and Fall of Ottoman Power"), which brought its author a European recognition. The image was taken over by engraver C. Fritzch in 1745 and introduced in the German edition of the aforementioned work. The specimen hereby is remarkable thanks to the size of the paper support, which was not cut after imprinting.
