French geographer and cartographer Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville (1697-1782) was one of the Encyclopedists who opened the path of classic French Illuminism. The current piece was executed as a part of historian Charles Rollin's Ancient History, issued in 1740. Engraving on copper, manually coloured after imprinting.
