Ana Maria Brânză (name after marriage Ana Maria Popescu) is an Olympic vice-champion at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and 2020 in Tokyo, an Olympic team champion at the 2016 edition in Rio de Janeiro, three times world champion (2019 at individual and 2010 and 2011 on teams) and seven times European champion (2013 at individual and 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015 on teams). She has won 14 World Cup tournaments throughout her career and has been declared the best epee fencer in the world in the seasons 2007–2008, 2008–2009, 2012–13, 2019–20 and 2020–21. The silver won at the Olympic Games in Tokyo is the third Olympic medal of her career, after the silver from Beijing, in the single event, and the gold with the team from Rio.
