A supporter of industrialisation of Romania, a predominantly agrarian country, and planned economy, Mitiță Constantinescu was both minister of finance between 1939 and 1940, during the period of the National Renaissance Front mass party established by Carol II, and governor of the National Bank between 1935 and 1940; his economic theories defined by centralisation brought him closer to the Stalinist vision of the time, which he also praised in a 1946 paper, anticipating both the national and international changes to come.
