The medal was made by the reputed German engraver Wilhelm Kullrich and displays on the obverse the effigies of the royal couple Carol I and Elizabeth, surrounded by their titles in Latin, while the reverse depicts the castle of Sinaia in relief, with the main tower, contrasting with the predominantly mountainous background. The legend in Latin on the reverse also mentions the year construction began, 1873. Peleș Castle, designed as a summer residence for the royal family, became a true "headquarters" of the new dynasty.
