The brass medal with handle displays on the obverse the bust of King Carol I, facing left, with a 6-pointed star below it, while the reverse depicts Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, this time facing right, wearing his colonel's uniform. After abdication and exile, he dies in 1873 in Heidelberg, Germany, and is brought back to Romania to be buried at the Royal Church near the Royal Palace in Ruginoasa, an important event of the time, attended by both the dominant political figures of the day, and more than 30,000 peasants.
