Constantin Jiquidi (1865-1899) was one of the founders of the contemporary Romanian caricature in an era when this phenomenon was strongly developed in the West. Well known personality of the Conservative Party, he ridiculed the liberals, but even some of the younger leaders of the conservatives, for example Alexandru Marghiloman, who did not escape his satirical jokes. Friend with I.L. Caragiale, with whom he worked on the illustration of "Moftului Român" (Romanian Caprice), Jiquidi independently edited the periodical "Camera Liberală" (Liberal Chamber) which appeared in six issues. The front issues (No. 3, No. 4, No. 5-6) contain splendid caricatures of late 19th-century Liberal politicians which formed a Parliament in which the National Liberal Party held a majority. His work was a great success with the public and is today a landmark of the political caricature phenomenon in our country.
