The artwork centers on the mythological character Leda (queen of Sparta), accompanied by the presence of the swan, but in fact portrays Gala, the artist's life partner and main muse, who over time becomes the leitmotif of Dali's work. Following the "divine proportions", the work is constructed in a rigid, almost mathematical manner. For the technical realization of the work, Salvador Dali consulted a mathematician of Romanian origin, Matila Ghyka. Unlike other contemporary artists, Dali moved away from the premise that the artistic act is limited or interrupted by technical rigors, focusing instead on experiment and well-defined structure.
