"The “Sign-giving Society” was one of the first sporting societies in Romania, appearing near the end of the reign of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza. It developed after 1866 during the reign of King Carol I. Initially a form of sociability for the male elite, it soon opened its doors to the middle and small bourgeoisie due to the popularity it had gained. The Society organized firing competitions, tombolas, and other events that made it stand out in the capital. The blazon is accompanied by the Society's title in German. The piece is in a good state of conservation."
