tamahagane steel, ray skin, brass, lacquered wood, l=64 cm

The handle of the blade (Nakago) is signed by the master Masamitsu (正光) from Osumi province (today Kagoshima). The blacksmith's activity falls in the latter part of the Edo period, specifically the first half of the 19th century. Decorative metal elements (Koshirae) feature partially gilded metal fittings. The scabbard (Saya) is lacquered in a shade of black.
