The Greek-Catholic cleric Grigore Maior (1715-1785) was appointed bishop of Blaj in 1772 but was obliged to resign a year later due to complaints from Protestants and Orthodox sent to the Aulic Chancellery in Vienna, unhappy with his tireless work of organizing the Greek-Catholic Church in Transylvania. An Enlightenment spirit, educated in Rome, he had a rich cultural activity, among his achievements being the printing at his initiative of the Gospel in Romanian in Blaj in 1776. The copy preserves the binding of the time, from wooden boards covered in leather, with both covers adorned with silver fittings. On the main cover in the central plan is the Resurrection scene and on the back cover the Crucifixion scene. The copy is complete and is presented in a good state of conservation.
