The famous Dutch cartographer, geographer and editor Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) is considered the founder of modern cartography primarily due to his renowned work "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" which saw no less than 34 editions by the end of the 18th century. The piece is part of an edition printed in the middle of the 18th century. Copper engraving colored by hand after printing.
