copper engraving, striated paper, hand colored, 52 x 40.5 cm

The cartographer and historian John Speed (1551-1629) published the work "Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World" in London in several editions. The present copy is probably part of one of the posthumous editions published in 1676. In addition to the actual cartographic elements, the map is distinguished by a decorative character of exceptional quality. Copper engraving colored by hand after printing.
