In December 1973, at the invitation of the President of the United States of America Richard Nixon, communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu undertook an official visit to Washington. The photographs captured various moments during this visit, including the official reception on the lawn of the White House. The images feature both presidents with their wives, American Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, diplomat Sergiu Celac, Ceaușescu’s English translator, Romania’s Foreign Minister at the time George Macovescu, and other American and Romanian officials. The copies were part of the archive of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs George Macovescu.
