Dimitrie Ghica Comânești (1839-1923), although he studied Law, has remained in posterity due to his efforts as an explorer of Africa. He, along with his son Nicolae, undertook a systematic exploration journey of the eastern horn of Africa (Somalia and Ethiopia). After returning home, he published this work in two editions, one in Paris, the other in Bucharest. The work brought him unanimous recognition and assured him European fame. The copy is part of the Romanian edition, published by Socec Publishing House in Bucharest in 1897 in an elegant version. The covers are the original ones made from pergamoid. Inside, there are numerous photographic illustrations made by the author during the expedition, as well as a map of the followed route.
