From Theodor Pallady to Adrian Ghenie, Romanian visual arts reflect the continuous transformation of Romanian society on a socio-cultural level, as well as a cultural and identity tension between East and West, tension that overlaps with this exceptional localization of the national territory between civilizations. Portraits, landscapes, everyday scenes, the city as a witness of the linear flow of time, a bridge between past and future, but especially between generations, all are themes approached by artists of both the interwar, postwar, and contemporary periods, after the 2000s.
