Travels outside the country would substantiate his familiarity with international art, a fact that would later serve as his source of creative inspiration. During a collective exhibition organized in Iasi, two of the works exhibited by Aurel Băeșu caught the eye of Queen Maria, who decided to purchase the works in question. The artist's interests include rural themes, portraits, self-portraits, but also landscapes. Dubbed the "painter of light", Băeșu attaches particular importance to detail, uses chromatic transparency contrivances and shapes his colours organically, according to the shapes sketched on his canvases. The "Peisaj din Iași" (Iași Landscape) is bright, discreet and vibrant The static monumentality of the building harmoniously intertwines with the dynamics created by the moving characters. The sky is pictorial, pastel, with visible brushstrokes, made in an impressionistic manner.
