Many of the medals manufactured soon after Romania entered the war along with the Entente, between 1916 and 1917, are known as the medals and plates of the "French-Romanian Alliance" and of the "Charity Works". All of them were minted in Paris, most of them at the initiative of the Assistance Committee of the Romanian Red Cross. Thus, the aim was to reward the dedication to the cause of Romania manifested by foreign and Romanian figures, as well as to valorise them in view of supporting the Romanian cause outside the country and to help Romanian war prisoners.
