The first of the four photographs of Mihai Eminescu that have been preserved was taken in 1869, in Prague, in the studio of the photographer Jan Tomás. Eminescu was 19 at the time. Two other versions were made after this photograph, by the Iaşi photographers Bernhard Brand and Nestor Heck.
