Painter of Balchik along with his contemporaries Adam Bălțatu, Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck, Dumitru Ghiață, Francisc Șirato, Henri Catargi, Jean-Alexandru Steriadi, Lucian Grigorescu, Ștefan Dimitrescu, Nicolae Tonitza and others, Samuel Mützner ventured to this bright and picturesque land in 1924. He continued to return to Balchik until the late 1930s, during which time he captured a rich variety of landscape motifs. Important elements in his painting style of the "Balchik" period will be the changes occurring in the relationship between form and colour, in which the effects of vibration, once used with perseverance, will now be replaced by a balance of volumes; pure tones will be replaced by variable mixtures and the brushwork is free, in long strokes and strenuous brushstrokes.
