The icon depicts Archangel Michael waist-high, in warrior garb. With his right hand he holds a raised sword, and with his left hand he supports a goblet against his chest. His garments conform to the typical iconography but are treated more freely: a dark ochre shirt, over which he wears a plate with golden mail. His long red cloak is draped over the left shoulder, with one end knotted on the right shoulder. His ample wings are painted in gold, with their plumage graphically rendered. The face of Archangel Michael, presented frontally, is oval. Features of his face are painted in shades of ochre, with fine strokes: he has large, slightly elongated eyes, underlined by dark circles, beautifully arched eyebrows, a straight nose, and a small, red mouth. His hair falls in curls on his shoulders and back. Around his head, he bears a halo. The year in which the icon was painted is found on the rim of the goblet: "1790 Aug[ust] 20".
