Painter and graphic artist Tomislav Krizman (Orlovac near Karlovac, 1882. - Zagreb, 1955.) is considered the founder of modern Croatian graphics. He studied painting with Čikoš Sesija and Crnčić and in Vienna. He painted in oil, tempera, watercolor, still life, portraits and landscapes, illustrated books and magazines, and worked on scenography and costume design at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb. He wrote the book On Graphic Skills (1952.) in which he presented what he learned about graphics. Oil on canvas Motif from Jajce realistically depicts local everyday life and was created in 1936. It can be considered both an ethnographic and cultural document because Krizman combines art with awareness of the importance of folk heritage. The city view of Bosnia's Jajce is characterized by steep roofs, wooden and stone houses, narrow streets and a well in the center. Figures in folk costumes and everyday scenes (conversation, work, socializing at the table, women at the well) depict the life of a small town between the two World Wars.
